Solano Transportation Authority’s Solano Safe Routes to School Program receives $155,000 grant

The Solano Transportation Authority’s Solano Safe Routes to School Program (SR2S) is the recipient of a $155,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) that will prioritize the safety of bicyclists and pedestrians.

Solano County is ranked No. 6 in California for pedestrian crashes for youth under 15 years old and second in bicycle crashes for this same age group.

Annual Campaign puts focus on walking to school

A typical sight for drivers as they pass by schools weekday mornings is kids — possibly accompanied by their parents — crossing the street as crossing guards usher them along and direct traffic.

Wednesday morning was no exception, but it had an added layer of significance: it was a day where students globally were strongly encouraged to walk or ride their bikes to campus.

Solano Safe Routes to School gets pedestrian, cyclist safety grant

SUISUN CITY — A $155,000 state grant for added pedestrian and cyclist safety has been awarded to the Solano Transportation Authority’s Safe Routes to School Program.

“The Solano Safe Routes to School Program provides a variety of educational and encouragement programs and events to promote walking and biking to school. However, safety education is paramount for the success of the program,” Vacaville Mayor Ron Rowlett, chairman of the Solano Transportation Authority’s board, said in a statement.

SR2S Micro Grant Cycle 2 Awards Announced

FAIRFIELD — The Solano County Transportation Authority has awarded $130,000 to 16 area projects that “encourage walking and biking and improve safety around schools in Solano County.”

The funds come from the second round of the Solano Safe Routes to School Micro Grant Program.

Solano Safe Routes to School grants available starting June 1

SUISUN CITY — Grants totaling $100,000 are available to Solano County cities, school districts, schools and community-based organizations from the Safe Routes to School Program.

The application period opens June 1 and closes at 5 p.m. July 15. Awardees will be notified by Sept. 15.

Suisun City – The Solano Transportation Authority’s (STA) Safe Routes to School (SR2S) Program will begin accepting applications for Cycle 2 of the SR2S Micro Grant program.

Officials say $100,000 in funding is available to Solano County cities, school districts, schools and community-based organizations. The application period opens on June 1 and closes on July 15.
