Solano Transportation Authority’s Solano Safe Routes to School Program receives $155,000 grant

The Solano Transportation Authority’s Solano Safe Routes to School Program (SR2S) is the recipient of a $155,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) that will prioritize the safety of bicyclists and pedestrians.

Solano County is ranked No. 6 in California for pedestrian crashes for youth under 15 years old and second in bicycle crashes for this same age group.

Annual Campaign puts focus on walking to school

A typical sight for drivers as they pass by schools weekday mornings is kids — possibly accompanied by their parents — crossing the street as crossing guards usher them along and direct traffic.

Wednesday morning was no exception, but it had an added layer of significance: it was a day where students globally were strongly encouraged to walk or ride their bikes to campus.
